Gjergj Sheldija
Architect. Coder. Problem Solver.
Bridging the gap between Cloud Native Engineering and Healthcare Regulation. Software Architect helping HealthTechs pass MDR audits and integrate with Hospital IT systems.
About Me
Hi! Iām Gjergj Sheldija, a Principal Software Architect šļø and Interoperability Expert š» with 20+ years in HealthTech, now focused on bridging the gap between Cloud Native Engineering and Medical Regulation š„.
My journey started with Open Source. Years ago, I contributed to projects like Care2x, one of the first open-source Hospital Information Systems. That experience taught me a fundamental truth: Healthcare software is useless if it stands alone.
Over the last 20 years, I have evolved from writing code to orchestrating national-scale digital ecosystems.
Quick Facts
Current Role
šļø Principal Software Architect at Raylytic
Toolkit
While I believe architecture transcends tools, I am currently most effective with:
- Languages: Go (Golang), Java, Python, PHP.
- Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Cloud Native patterns, Docker.
- The “Hard Stuff”: FHIR, HL7 v2/v3, DICOM, IHE Profiles.
Clients
- UNICEF: Led the architectural design to digitize birth records across an entire nation, connecting maternity hospitals to central government registries.
- Raylytic: Architected the AIQNET ecosystem, proving that AI and clinical data can coexist under strict MDR compliance.
- Trivago: Engineered high-traffic backend services that handle millions of requests, learning what true “web scale” looks like.
Skills & Expertise
Combining 20+ years of HealthTech innovation with Cloud Native architecture to bridge the gap between legacy healthcare systems and modern AI.
System Architecture
Designing distributed, event-driven microservices using Go and Java. specialized in migrating monolithic legacy systems (PHP/Java) to scalable cloud architectures.
Healthcare Interoperability
Deep expertise in FHIR R4, HL7 v2/v3, DICOM, and IHE profiles. Building the 'plumbing' that connects modern apps to hospital IT landscapes (KIS/HIS).
Regulatory Compliance (MDR)
Architecting 'Compliance as Code' solutions. Ensuring systems meet EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR), GDPR, and ISO 13485 standards without slowing development.
Cloud Native & DevOps
Orchestrating Kubernetes clusters and implementing GitOps pipelines. Proven track record of reducing cloud costs by 35% and slashing deployment times.
AI & Data Privacy
Architecting privacy-preserving AI ecosystems (like AIQNET) that enable machine learning on clinical data directly within the hospital network (Edge AI).
Technical Leadership
Steering technical strategy for national-scale projects (UNICEF) and high-growth scale-ups. Bridging the gap between Engineering, Legal, and Medical stakeholders.
International Experience
Polyglot professional (English, Italian, German, Albanian) with extensive experience leading distributed teams across the DACH region and Southern Europe.
Open Source & Mentoring
Veteran contributor to Open Source HealthTech (Care2x, HAPI FHIR). Passionate about mentoring developers and advancing the FHIR standard community.
Experience
Principal Architect with 20+ years of engineering leadership, bridging modern cloud-native architecture with rigid healthcare compliance (MDR, GDPR, FHIR).
